Access to energy transforms lives by improving health and education and helping families to rise out of poverty. However, no significant increase in access to electricity is expected to occur among the poor in the next twenty years if appropriate political action is not taken.
We can all help to change this situation by backing the UPC Development Cooperation and Human Development Research Group’s Energy for All in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030 campaign. The Development Cooperation and Human Development Research Group (GRECDH) is committed to securing the public and political support that will lead to an increase in European Union aid for improving access to energy in Sub-Saharan Africa. The aid is provided in the framework of the Energy Access for the Poor in Sub-Saharan Africa to Meet the Millennium Development Goals project, which is funded partly by the European Commission’s EuropeAid programme. The first edition of the Energy for All in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030 video competition was held to contribute to the initiative. The idea was to produce a video that would raise awareness among citizens and politicians regarding the problem of access to energy among the poor in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The winning video was The Importance of Energy by Anna Romagosa Rovira (ETSEIB), Laura Lacueva Ratera (ETSEIB) and Albert Rodríguez Nicolás (ETSEIAT).
